Description

I made this painting in 2023.

 

I started with some shapes; as most painters tend to do. I had no plan but I did have a canvas and a selection of colours to paint with.

 

For me knowing my process is sometimes more important than knowing my plan. I trust my process more than the plan.

 

In this instance I got to a stage where it looked like it should have been a finished painting but I knew it wasn’t what I wanted it to look like.

 

So I made a strange purple colour, and started to dip my hands into the paint. I then splatted with my hands the canvas again and again until I saw something worthwhile.

 

After 10 minutes I looked up and saw that it was coming together. I then took some black paint and cut the shapes I had previously made into their natural section.

 

I saw animals, a cross, a face, a heart and love.

 

I then grabbed my tip-ex pen and started to fill in the blanks, bringing the painting to its final destination.
